Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the 2025 Delta State bursary and scholarship awards for thousands of students in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria, reinforcing his administration’s focus on education and student welfare.

The approval covers the 2025 bursary scheme for Delta State students, scholarship awards for students with disabilities, and children of deceased civil servants. It also includes financial assistance for Delta indigenes studying at the Nigerian Law School.

Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Dr. Godfrey Enita, disclosed this on Thursday, February 12, 2026, during a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Delta State Students. He explained that the governor’s approval was intended to reduce the financial pressure on students and their families, particularly in the current economic climate.

Dr. Enita said the meeting followed concerns raised by students over delays in the 2025 bursary payments. He assured the student body that the state government had begun processing payments for the approved bursaries and scholarships. According to him, disbursement of the special financial support earlier approved for Delta State students at the Nigerian Law School is also underway.

A breakdown of the beneficiaries shows that 33,064 students will receive the 2025 Delta State bursary. In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students living with disabilities will benefit from scholarship awards. Another 533 Law School students are set to receive financial assistance under the special package approved by the governor.

Dr. Enita reiterated that the Oborevwori administration regards education as a key driver of sustainable development and human capital growth in Delta State. He noted that continued investment in students remains central to the government’s broader development agenda.

Leaders of the National Association of Delta State Students, led by President Comrade Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph and Senate President Comrade Idiseru Alex, welcomed the announcement. They described the approval of the 2025 Delta State bursary and scholarships as timely and impactful, adding that it would ease the financial burden on many families.

The student leaders expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for what they called consistent support for Delta State students and pledged continued cooperation with the state government.
