President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), just 48 hours after the resignation of the previous chairman.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
He noted that the appointment has been submitted to the Senate for confirmation, as mandated by Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.
President Tinubu has also reached out to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urging for a swift confirmation of Yusuf. He will take over from Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, who resigned earlier this week after approximately 14 months in office.

Ambassador Yusuf is an experienced Nigerian diplomat, having served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.
His appointment follows the resignation of the former chairman, Professor Abdullahi Usman, who stepped down on Tuesday.
The reasons for Usman’s resignation have not been officially disclosed, but reports indicate it may have been prompted by a petition from NAHCON board members to President Tinubu, calling for his removal due to alleged misconduct.
