The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has called on the leadership of the National Assembly to replace the Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki, over what it described as anti-party activities linked to the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement issued in Kano on Wednesday, the NNPP Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, alleged that Madaki was recently seen at a local APC caucus meeting in his Dala Local Government Area alongside prominent stakeholders of the ruling party.
Karaye said the development raised serious concerns within the party, noting that Madaki has not formally resigned his membership of the NNPP. According to him, the lawmaker’s presence at an APC meeting runs contrary to the provisions of the NNPP constitution and undermines party discipline.
The party argued that allowing a serving NNPP lawmaker to retain a key minority leadership position while allegedly fraternising with the ruling APC could weaken the opposition bloc in the National Assembly. It maintained that such conduct sends the wrong signal at a time when Nigerians expect a strong and credible opposition.
The Kano NNPP therefore urged the National Assembly leadership to appoint another member it described as loyal and committed to occupy the office of Deputy Minority Whip. The party said the move was necessary to protect the integrity of the minority caucus and preserve internal party cohesion.

Karaye warned that failure to act could embolden what he termed attempts to erode multiparty democracy and consolidate the influence of the ruling party within the legislature.
The NNPP reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values and called on relevant authorities to safeguard Nigeria’s plural political system as debates over party loyalty and cross-party engagements continue to shape the political landscape.
