The Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development and youth engagement following a meeting with the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Éric Sékou Chelle.
Governor Dauda Lawal Dare received the national team coach at the Government House in Gusau on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen sports development initiatives in the state.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the governor described the engagement as productive, noting that discussions centred on how sports can be leveraged to support youth empowerment and overall socio-economic development in Zamfara.

Governor Lawal praised Coach Chelle for his accomplishments in football and said the visit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on strategies for identifying and nurturing young talents across the state.
He disclosed that special attention was given to encouraging youth participation in sports ahead of the planned inauguration of the renovated Zamfara State stadium and sports complex.
According to the governor, sports remain a critical tool for talent discovery, social inclusion, unity, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles among young people.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to invest in sports infrastructure and programmes that support grassroots development, adding that collaboration with national sports figures would help expand opportunities for Zamfara youths.
Coach Chelle’s visit, the statement noted, reflects a growing emphasis on positioning sports as a catalyst for youth development and long-term progress in the state.
