The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Abubakar Sadiq, over the alleged murder of his elder brother, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, in Gombi Local Government Council of the state.

The arrest followed what the police described as a major operational breakthrough by operatives of the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, working in collaboration with professional hunters as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crimes, including culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms.

Briefing journalists on Wednesday, the command said the suspect, a resident of Boga Village, was arrested in connection with the killing, which occurred on January 20, 2026.

During interrogation, Abubakar Sadiq allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime, admitting that he conspired with five other individuals to murder his elder brother.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect disclosed that the murder was planned for a promised sum of N2 million, but that he received an advance payment of N130,000.

Nguroje said the suspect revealed that his role was to monitor the movements of the deceased and provide information on his whereabouts to the attackers.

“I was told to watch my elder brother and inform them whenever he was at home or moving around,” the suspect was quoted as saying.

“After I received the alert into my bank account, I agreed. I regret my actions deeply. I sold out my own blood brother for N130,000, and I am truly sorry.”

The suspect further disclosed that he was later invited to a meeting in a thick bush where final arrangements for the killing were concluded.

Items recovered during the operation include one AK-47 rifle, one locally made single-barrel rifle, one Dane gun and 24 rounds of live ammunition.

Nguroje confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody and that investigations are ongoing.

He added that two members of the alleged criminal gang were killed in a gun battle with security operatives while attempting to resist arrest, while two others escaped and are currently being pursued.

The police spokesperson urged the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains critical in the fight against crime.
