The Nigeria Railway Corporation has announced the resumption of train operations on the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor, bringing relief to passengers and businesses affected by the recent suspension of services.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the NRC Railways Customer Service Unit, WITS, and made available to journalists in Warri on Monday. According to the statement, train services on the route will officially resume on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The corporation disclosed that the first train will depart Warri from the Ujevwu Station at 8.00 a.m. on Wednesday and arrive at Itakpe Station the same day. On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the return trip will depart Itakpe Station by 12.00 p.m. back to Warri, with regular operations continuing thereafter.

In the statement, the NRC apologised to passengers for the delay in resuming services, thanking commuters for their patience and understanding during the period of suspension. The corporation also confirmed that its e-ticketing platform would reopen by midnight, enabling passengers to begin bookings ahead of the resumption.

The Warri–Itakpe train service, which connects Delta State with Kogi State, is a critical segment of the Warri–Itakpe rail line inaugurated in 2020 to enhance both passenger and freight movement between the South-South and North-Central regions of Nigeria. The corridor plays a strategic role in facilitating inter-state travel and supporting the evacuation of goods from Warri ports.

Train operations on the route were suspended several weeks ago due to operational and logistical challenges, including ongoing maintenance of rail infrastructure and safety considerations. The disruption affected passenger mobility and commercial activities along the corridor, triggering widespread calls from commuters and stakeholders for an early return of services.

The Nigeria Railway Corporation has maintained that temporary suspensions are sometimes unavoidable, noting that they are aimed at ensuring passenger safety and improving overall service efficiency as the national rail network continues to expand.
