Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Friday gathered at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, for a strategic meeting focused on party unity, electronic registration, grassroots mobilisation and readiness for the forthcoming congresses.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said leadership must always draw its legitimacy from the people, stressing that it should be anchored on humility, empathy and selfless service.

“Leadership derives its legitimacy from the people and must be guided by humility, empathy and service,” the governor said.

He called on party leaders and members to place collective interest above personal ambitions, warning against actions capable of breeding division within the party.

“Unity remains our greatest strength. We must resist division and avoid unnecessary conflicts,” Oborevwori stated.

The governor noted that such meetings provide an avenue to review progress, reinforce party structures and prepare for key political milestones. According to him, mobilisation, registration and active participation would ultimately determine the party’s electoral success.

While urging stakeholders to work towards delivering massive votes for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, he said, “The number of votes we are able to deliver will determine our strength and what we are able to attract at the federal level.”

Also addressing the gathering, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, urged party members to remain focused as the congresses approach, commending the progress recorded in the e-registration exercise and the growing diversity within the party.

He cautioned against rumours and unnecessary delays, advising early engagement and consensus-building at the grassroots level. According to him, “Dialogue remains key to reducing tension and ensuring a smooth congress process.”

Immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, thanked Governor Oborevwori for convening the meeting, describing his visit to Government House after many years as a demonstration of inclusiveness.

“I am committed to working in unity with Governor Oborevwori and other stakeholders to further strengthen the APC in Delta State,” Omo-Agege pledged.

Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, commended stakeholders for their unity and sustained engagement, calling for intensified grassroots mobilisation to deepen the e-registration exercise.

“We must take the e-registration to homes and communities,” Okowa said, while emphasising inclusiveness and consensus in the conduct of the congresses. He also praised Governor Oborevwori for fostering harmony within the party and urged leaders to return to their constituencies with renewed commitment.

National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Felix Morka, lauded Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and the digitalisation of the party’s membership register, recommending a consensus approach for the forthcoming congresses.

In his welcome address, the State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, disclosed that the party had recorded over 90 per cent realignment since April 2025, describing the meeting as clear evidence of growing unity and momentum within the party.

Giving updates on e-registration and congress preparations, Delta North APC Chairman, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka, reported relative peace in the district but noted challenges affecting registration. Delta Central Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, said significant progress had been made, with Okpe Local Government Area leading statewide, while appealing for restraint pending the release of official guidelines.

Similarly, Delta South Chairman, Prince Austin Oribioye, called for the resolution of technical glitches to enable the party meet its registration targets.

The State E-Registration Coordinator, Prince Fred Mordi, revealed that Delta State was selected to host the South-South training, noting that registration figures were steadily rising despite minor challenges.

“We are confident of meeting our targets before the deadline,” Mordi assured.

The meeting observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate.
