The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Wednesday arraigned 11 suspects in connection with the murder of an ARISE News anchor, reporter, and producer, Ms. Somtochukwu Maduagwu, and a security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami, during a robbery attack in Abuja.
The suspects were arraigned before a court in the FCT over their alleged involvement in the killing of the duo at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Mabushi, on September 29, 2025.
Those arraigned are Shamsu Hassan, Sani Sirajo, Hassan Isah, Abubakar Alkamu, Abdulsalam Saleh, Suleiman Badamasi, Zaharadeen Mohammed, Musa Umar (also known as “Small”), Mashkur Jamil, Suleiman Sani, and Abubakar Usman.

The defendants are facing a nine-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder.
The court adjourned the matter to February 2026 for further proceedings.
Maduagwu’s killing had sparked public outrage, with calls for justice from colleagues in the media and civil society groups, while police assured that all those responsible would be brought to book.
