Police has launched an investigation into an alleged acid attack on a 17-year-old boy, Walid Mohammed, in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The State Command, spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje said in a statement on Thursday that the incident occurred on January 14, 2026, at Shagari Quarters in Yola.
The police affirmed that the teenager reported that he was attacked while on his way to a mosque and was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acid by a resident of the area identified as Idris Hamza.

Nguroje said the victim ran to the Shagari Police Division in distress after the attack and was immediately taken to hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
“The alleged suspect has been arrested and taken into custody, while the victim is undergoing treatment,” the police spokesperson said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Dankombo Morris, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.
The police said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
