The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is set to enact a law on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, that will make it illegal for women to engage in sexual relations with married men in the state.
If passed, the law will impose a prison sentence of up to 10 years for any young woman found in such a situation, while the married man involved will face a fine of N2 million.

This bill, introduced by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Inyang, aims to address the growing concern over infidelity among married men, which has been detrimental to their families.
Such behavior often leads to neglect, leaving families without proper food, medical care, and other essential support.
