Afrobeats artist Tiwa Savage has shared her parenting philosophy, emphasizing that she intentionally raises her son, Jamil, with discipline and boundaries regardless of her success and wealth.
In her Instagram story, Tiwa reflected on a video by businesswoman and pastor Ibukun Awosika, quoting her on the risks of letting personal success hinder children’s aspirations.
Tiwa noted that children spoiled with everything may later lack motivation and drive. She believes unmet needs inspire people to work hard and pursue their dreams.
“A dream should be bigger than your current reality. It should be something you want that you don’t already have,” she said.
She revealed she is already applying this mindset with Jamil, her son with ex-husband Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun.
Although she sometimes travels on private jets, she purposely books her son economy class on commercial flights.
During a recent flight, she observed that Jamil was uncomfortable in economy, complaining about neck pain and limited legroom.

She found his complaints amusing, noting his legs were too short to reach the seat in front.
She added that even with a nanny, she checked on him often, concerned about his dissatisfaction with the seating.
Tiwa also shared that she teaches Jamil the importance of earning rewards. Instead of just requesting things like Roblox, he now needs to earn them through chores or good school grades.
“He has to earn it by doing house chores or when he gets good grades,” she explained.
Moreover, Tiwa said Jamil isn’t allowed to use an iPad, eat snacks, or have candy during the week. She has also included Bible study in their nightly routine before bed.
Despite strict rules, Tiwa described Jamil as “a really good kid” and clarified her approach is rooted in love, aiming to build a strong foundation for his future.
“I am intentional about establishing a good foundation for him,” she wrote, noting that this reflects her true love.
She has often talked about motherhood and the struggles of parenting in the public eye since Jamil was born in 2015.
