The Taraba State chapter of the Coalition of Civil Societies in Nigeria (CCSN) has attributed the recent improvement in security across the state to the sustained efforts of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade under the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas.

The coalition made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the 6 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, at the brigade headquarters in Jalingo.

Speaking during the visit, the state Chairman of the coalition, Joseph Gimba, said the relative peace currently enjoyed in Taraba State was largely the result of a strong and cordial working relationship between security agencies, particularly the army and civil society organizations.

He said many of the security achievements credited to the current state administration were driven by the round-the-clock operations and effective leadership of the 6 Brigade.

“The security structures put in place under Brigadier General Uwa have gone a long way in significantly curtailing criminal activities across the state,” Gimba said.

He expressed confidence that any officer who succeeds the current brigade commander would build on the existing security framework to further deter criminal elements.

While acknowledging the operational challenges faced by the brigade, Gimba maintained that Taraba State had remained relatively secure due to strong leadership.

The coalition chairman also recalled his personal experience of being kidnapped in the past, noting that the incident might have been prevented or better managed had the current brigade commander been deployed to the state at the time.

Gimba reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to continued collaboration with the brigade in efforts to rid all parts of Taraba State of criminal activities.

Responding, Brigadier General Uwa commended the coalition for its support, describing security as a collective responsibility.

He said the cooperation and engagement of civil society groups had been instrumental to the successes recorded by the brigade.

The commander stressed that sustainable peace could only be achieved through joint efforts, praising the coalition for its role in early warning initiatives and community sensitization.

He assured the group of the army’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property while upholding human rights.

Uwa added that the 6 Brigade would remain resolute in denying criminal elements the space to operate in Taraba State.
