The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stated that excessive speeding and improper overtaking were the causes of the tragic road accident involving renowned boxer Anthony Joshua on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement released on Monday, the corps confirmed that the incident took place on December 29, 2025, near the Sinoma area close to Sagamu, Ogun State, involving a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and a stationary commercial truck.
Preliminary reports from the FRSC Ogun Sector Command indicated that the crash occurred around noon and was promptly reported to the FRSC.
Their personnel arrived at the scene within three minutes to conduct rescue operations, evacuate victims, manage traffic, and prevent further accidents.
The incident involved a black Lexus SUV with the registration number KRD *** HN and a stationary red Sinotruck with an unknown registration.

Five adult males were involved in the crash; two lost their lives, one was injured, and two others were unharmed.
Anthony Joshua was rescued alive with minor injuries.
The injured individual was taken to a hospital for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu.
The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division was notified for further investigation and documentation.
The FRSC’s preliminary findings indicated that the Lexus SUV, believed to have been traveling over the speed limit, lost control while attempting to overtake and collided with the properly parked truck.
The corps emphasized that excessive speed and improper overtaking are serious traffic violations and major contributors to fatal accidents on Nigerian roads.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, on behalf of the FRSC management and staff, extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to Joshua and the injured victim.
