Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has urged newly trained forest guards to refrain from using their skills to intimidate or harass law-abiding citizens.
During the graduation ceremony for 987 forest guards at the General Murtala Mohammed College in Yola, the governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, encouraged the graduates to view themselves as privileged individuals tasked with serving their communities and the nation, emphasizing the importance of professionalism in their roles.
Gov. Fintiri praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu for overseeing the initiative and managing the forest guards.
He also called on the public to support and collaborate with the forest guards assigned to their areas.
The governor assured that the government would continue to back this initiative, saying “I want to assure you of the ongoing support from the Adamawa State government for this program.

Earlier, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu highlighted that the forest guard initiative combines environmental goals with national security needs.
He stated that “by protecting our forests, we are reclaiming our territory. By reclaiming our territory, we are securing our people and their future.”
Represented by Colonel E.E. Eswagu, Ribadu reaffirmed his office’s commitment to ensuring the initiative’s success.
“I also assure President Bola Tinubu of our unwavering dedication to achieving measurable security, environmental, and socio-economic results in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
Ribadu announced the immediate payment of salaries and allowances for the graduating forest guards to ensure they are operationally ready and motivated.
The recruitment of forest guards aligns with the national security emergency declared by Tinubu, who instructed the army and police to recruit additional personnel to enhance security across the country.
