President Bola Tinubu has awarded the national honor of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) on former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong.
The defender announced the honor on Tuesday after receiving his official certificate, which followed an announcement made the night before.
He expressed his appreciation to the president and described the recognition as a significant moment for both himself and his family.
“I am honored and thankful to His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (@officialABAT), for granting me the MFR national honor.
“I received the official certificate today after the announcement last night. This is a very proud moment for me and my family,” he stated.
The 32-year-old defender also conveyed his gratitude to the country that provided him with the opportunity to fulfill his dreams.

“As our Super Eagles embark on their AFCON journey today, I wish the team great success.
“As promised, I will support them wholeheartedly. I believe in this group, our nation, and what we can achieve,” he added.
In the certificate shared in his post, Tinubu formally bestowed the honor, stating, “In exercise of the powers vested in me under section 1(4) of the National Honours Act, I, BOLA AHMED TINUBU, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in recognition of your outstanding virtues and in appreciation of your services to our country, Nigeria, HEREBY award you the title, dignity, and all the privileges of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).”
