The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Kano has intercepted two young women attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, highlighting ongoing vigilance against criminal activities within correctional facilities.
The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Maryam Ali and 20-year-old Hauwa Musa, were apprehended during routine security screening of visitors on December 21, 2025, according to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, Musbahu Lawan. Initial investigations revealed that the women, residents of Kano, were carrying suspected illegal substances intended for distribution to inmates inside the facility.

Lawan described the attempted smuggling as a serious breach of regulations and a criminal offence under Nigerian law. The suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The NCoS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict security, discipline, and a zero-tolerance policy against illegal activities in and around custodial centres. Lawan also urged members of the public to adhere strictly to the rules governing visits to correctional facilities, warning that violations would be dealt with decisively under the law.
This incident underscores the vigilance of correctional authorities in Kano and their continued efforts to prevent drugs and contraband from entering custodial institutions, ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of inmates.
