Former United States President Barack Obama has once again spotlighted Nigerian music on the global stage, featuring Burna Boy, Olamide, Seyi Vibez and Asake on his 2025 Summer Playlist.
Obama unveiled the 30-track playlist on Friday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, continuing a tradition he started during his presidency of sharing his favourite music picks each year.
“As 2025 comes to an end, I’m continuing a tradition I began during my presidency: sharing my annual favourite music lists,” Obama wrote. “I hope you discover something new to enjoy — and feel free to send me any recommendations!”
Among the Nigerian entries, Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy made the list with “TaTaTa,” his 2025 collaboration with American rapper Travis Scott. The track appears on Burna Boy’s latest album, No Sign of Weakness.
Indigenous rap icon Olamide also earned a spot with “99,” a star-studded track featuring Seyi Vibez, Asake, Young Jonn and Daecolm. The song is taken from Olamide’s newly released album, Olamidé.
The inclusion of multiple Nigerian artists further highlights the growing global influence of Afrobeats and Nigerian street-pop, genres that have increasingly found space on international charts and playlists curated by global tastemakers.
Obama’s annual playlists, spanning summer, books, and films are widely followed and often spark renewed interest in featured artists across different regions of the world.
