Bayelsa State was thrown into shock after the deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, died at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa. He collapsed in his office shortly after midday and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his death on arrival.
The incident happened at about 1:30 in the afternoon and triggered a swift emergency response within the Government House. Witnesses at the hospital said he was brought in unconscious as medical staff attempted to stabilise him. A relative later explained that the collapse followed days of intense official duties, though the precise medical cause has not yet been made public. Several officials familiar with the situation said the signs pointed to a cardiac episode, but authorities have not issued a formal statement.
