The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) News 24 is set to confer a Special Recognition Award on veteran journalist, public affairs analyst, and development communication scholar, Dr. Ibrahim Modibbo, in acknowledgment of his illustrious contributions to media advancement and democratic discourse in Nigeria.
The award will be presented at the 4th Edition of the NTA News 24 Recognition of Excellence & Awards Night, scheduled for Friday, December 12, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
The event will take place at The Arena, NTA Headquarters, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.
The event will convene leading voices in government, media, and policy circles in what promises to be a night of prestige and national reflection.
In the official notification signed by Wada Ibrahim, General Manager, NTA News 24, Dr. Modibbo was commended for his “outstanding contributions, unwavering commitment and support to NTA News 24,” with emphasis on his role in strengthening media professionalism and political communication in Nigeria—an impact described as both historic and exemplary.
Born in Adamawa State, Dr. Modibbo’s journalism career spans close to four decades, marked by editorial innovation, intellectual depth, and strategic communication leadership.
He obtained his first degree in English from the University of Maiduguri in 1986, followed by a Diploma in Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism (1996).

He later earned a Master’s Degree in Media Arts from the University of Abuja (2005), and subsequently completed both M.Phil and Ph.D. in Development Communication at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (2022).
Regarded as a pioneer of media institutional development in Northern Nigeria, Dr. Modibbo became the first Regional Editor of Vanguard Newspapers in the North-East in 1988.
His editorial footprint also spans roles as Regional Editor, The Week Magazine, Yola; Assistant Editor, Newswatch Magazine, Lagos; Founding Political Editor, Daily Trust; and Deputy Editor, Leadership Newspapers, Abuja.
Beyond the newsroom, Dr. Modibbo distinguished himself in political messaging and campaign strategy, serving as National Director of Publicity of the defunct APP/ANPP from 2001 to 2008, during which he helped frame national political conversations across two electoral cycles.
He later co-founded The Road Newspapers, Abuja, and currently chairs the Board of Editors, Verbatim Magazine.
