Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have agreed to work together on NLNG’s planned overhaul and upgrade of critical operational assets in Trains 1 to 6 of its Bonny Island plant.
The partnership was detailed in a joint statement signed by Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager, Corporate Communications at NCDMB, and Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development. According to both organisations, the collaboration aims to boost asset efficiency, reliability, and overall plant performance.
The agreement was reached at the Nigerian Content Stakeholders’ Retreat held at NLNG’s operational base in Finima, Bonny Island, Rivers State.
During the session, NLNG’s General Manager, Production, Nnamdi Anowi, gave an overview of the company’s planned revamp initiative tagged the Accelerated Asset Intervention (AAI) programme. Anowi said the project is scheduled to begin in 2026 and requires NCDMB’s full support and timely regulatory approvals for smooth execution. The AAI, he noted, will focus on refurbishing the Trains and Common Facilities, which are central to the company’s operations.
“The goal is to strengthen predictive maintenance, maintain top-quartile reliability performance, ensure steady gas delivery, and sustain NLNG’s position as the nation’s leading energy company,” Anowi stated.
Responding on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to supporting NLNG. He explained that the relationship between both institutions has consistently produced positive outcomes, reflecting NCDMB’s mandate as both regulator and industry facilitator.
Bamidele recalled that NCDMB previously issued expedited approvals for NLNG’s Train 7 Project, allowing construction to begin in 2020 despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board also fast-tracked approvals for associated gas supply projects intended to feed Train 7.
He stressed the importance of maximizing Nigerian content and leveraging local capacity in upcoming AAI work packages, in accordance with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.

At the Nigerian Content Stakeholders’ Retreat Appreciation Night and Award Gala, the Executive Secretary applauded NLNG for the significant milestones recorded on the Train 7 Project, noting that it currently employs thousands of Nigerians and continues to stimulate economic growth.
Also speaking at the event, pioneer NCDMB Executive Secretary, Dr. Ernest Nwapa, highlighted NLNG’s longstanding leadership in local content development. He recounted how the company emerged early as an “icon of Nigerian Content” due to its voluntary compliance and initiatives such as the industry’s first skills-gap analysis, which helped shape capacity-building priorities across the sector.
The event concluded with the presentation of awards to organisations and individuals for outstanding contributions to Nigerian content advancement. Honourees included NCDMB (Nigerian Content Business Enabler Award), Promat Coating Limited (Train 7 Award for Local Manufacturing and Procurement), EVOMEC Global Services Limited and ARCO Worldwide Services (Overall Best Nigerian Content Compliant Contractor – technical and non-technical), and Seflam SGL Limited (Nigerian Content Diversity and Inclusion Award), among others.
