The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected the expanded Kogi State executive council announced by the African Democratic Congress, ruling that the list did not pass through the proper channels.

The new line-up was assembled by Hon Leke Abejide, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. His faction had unveiled the expanded executive during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja on November 22, where Sunday Maiyaki was chosen to replace Kingsley Temitope Ogah as state chairman and Mamman Akpena emerged as secretary.

After the meeting, the group forwarded its list to the INEC office in Lokoja. The commission declined to recognise the new officers and maintained that only the party’s national secretariat in Abuja is permitted to send such communication to its headquarters.

In a letter dated November 25 and signed by Dahiru Halmisu Usman, Acting Administrative Secretary in Kogi State, INEC reminded the faction that it deals strictly with national officers of political parties and not with competing state groups. The commission stressed that all correspondence must originate from the ADC headquarters before INEC can act on it.

The decision leaves the Kingsley Temitope Ogah leadership as the only state executive acknowledged by both the national party structure and the electoral commission. Observers say the rejection signals a firm attempt by INEC to curb internal party disputes that often spill into the political arena.
