Vice-President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja to stand in for President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit taking place from Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the office of the Vice-President, Stanley Nkwocha, announced this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Nkwocha clarified that Shettima’s trip to South Africa was prompted by Tinubu’s decision to remain in Nigeria to address pressing security issues.

He noted that Tinubu had postponed his planned visit to Johannesburg to receive further security updates regarding recent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States.

Nkwocha mentioned that South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, who is also the current president of the G20, had invited Tinubu to participate in this year’s summit.

He added that the event will gather leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, including representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and various financial institutions.

According to him, the vice-president will return to Nigeria after the summit concludes.
