There are indications that the federal government has relocated Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from the Department of Security Services (DSS) facility to a correctional institution.
This information was shared by Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, on X on Friday.
In his post on X, Ejimakor mentioned that his client, who had been held at the DSS facility in Abuja since his arrest, has now been transferred to Sokoto, which is far from his legal representatives, family, and friends.
Ejimakor stated on X, “Breaking: MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones, and well-wishers.”

A Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced the Biafra activist to life imprisonment on Thursday, November 20, for acts of terrorism.
Judge James Omotosho, who presided over the case, found Kanu guilty on all seven charges brought against him by the DSS.
In delivering the verdict, Justice Omotosho mentioned that he could have imposed the death penalty due to the severity of Kanu’s crimes against the state.
He also noted that Kanu showed no remorse, but ultimately decided on life imprisonment due to his own moral conviction to show mercy.
