The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has submitted all documents demanded by the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies, marking a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination crisis. The materials were presented during the committee’s sitting at the National Assembly in Abuja.

In his opening remarks, the committee chairman, Oboku Oforji, reminded members that the inquiry followed a House resolution passed on May 15, 2025, in response to widespread complaints that trailed the examination. He said the investigation is intended to identify the causes of the disruptions recorded during the 2025 UTME and to advance the push for establishing at least one Computer-Based Test centre in each of the nation’s 774 local government areas.

Oforji explained that the committee will examine JAMB’s budget implementation and its internally generated revenue from 2023 to date, along with evidence of remittances to the Consolidated Revenue Fund and the board’s bank statements for the same period. He stressed that the exercise is a constitutional oversight responsibility and not a punitive effort.

He urged ministries and agencies to cooperate fully by honouring document requests and attending scheduled briefings. He also criticised the conduct of JAMB officials during an earlier sitting, when a delegation led by Muftau Bello walked out after being asked to introduce themselves. He said such behaviour undermines the authority of Parliament and cited the constitutional provisions that empower lawmakers to carry out oversight duties.

Oforji confirmed receiving JAMB’s submissions and said the committee would review them carefully.

At the session, JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede apologised for the conduct of the officials. He distanced himself from the incident and reaffirmed his respect for the National Assembly. He also confirmed that all requested documents had been provided.

He added that the committee will reconvene after completing its review.
