The Igbide and Emede communities in Isoko South Local Government Area have jointly cautioned individuals spreading dangerous rumours and misinformation capable of reigniting tension between the two neighbours. The warning followed the signing of a new peace accord endorsed by traditional leaders, youth representatives, and security agencies, aimed at strengthening the bond of peace and preventing future crises.

Under the terms of the agreement, any person caught farming, fishing, or engaging in any form of activity across the established boundary lines between Igbide and Emede will be fined ₦500,000. Those found carrying guns, ammunition, or other weapons while going to farm or fish within or around the disputed areas will also pay ₦500,000.

The accord further stipulates that anyone responsible for instigating conflict or causing unrest will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for prosecution. In addition, individuals who spread false information or rumours likely to cause misunderstanding between the two communities will face fines ranging from ₦1 million to ₦2 million, depending on the gravity of their actions.

The bylaws also address the growing problem of people claiming to have dreams, visions, or prophecies predicting conflict between Igbide and Emede. Such persons will be fined ₦500,000 as part of efforts to curb fear and false alarms.

Community leaders reaffirmed their determination to implement these measures strictly, warning that no individual, regardless of status, would be spared if found violating the peace pact. Copies of the new Igbide–Emede Peace Bylaws have been circulated across both communities to ensure full awareness and compliance.

The accord marks a turning point in the long history of relations between the two communities, with leaders expressing hope that it will usher in a lasting era of peace, unity, and development in the region.
