Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s recent threat to launch military action in Nigeria under the guise of protecting Christians, describing the statement as dangerous and deceitful.
In a press statement released on Sunday, Sowore cautioned Nigerians against embracing what he called “perilous rhetoric” from foreign powers, warning that U.S. military interventions have historically left countries in ruins rather than bringing peace. He cited Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria as examples of nations devastated by such interference, arguing that similar actions in Nigeria would only worsen insecurity and deepen divisions.
“Whether you are Christian, Muslim, animist, or non-religious, no one should celebrate this,” Sowore stated. “The United States and its allies have a long record of interventions that make countries more unstable than before. They won’t bring salvation to Nigeria through bombs or boots on the ground.”
Sowore stressed that Nigeria’s liberation would not come from any foreign nation but from within, through genuine leadership, justice, and national renewal. He argued that the country’s persistent corruption and weak governance were products of failed leadership, not lack of foreign assistance.

Taking a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sowore declared that the country’s deliverance would not come “from the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubus of this world,” but from a people-driven movement determined to reclaim Nigeria’s destiny.
He accused Trump of feigning concern for Nigerians, saying, “@realDonaldTrump does not care about Nigerians, not Christians, Muslims, or anyone else. Our deliverance will never come from abroad; it must come from within.”
The statement, tagged #RevolutionNow, has since sparked widespread debate across social media, with many Nigerians echoing Sowore’s call for internal reform and warning against the dangers of foreign intervention disguised as humanitarian concern.
