The House of Representatives on Tuesday resumed plenary after its annual recess, inaugurating three newly elected members and outlining key legislative priorities for the months ahead.
In his welcome address, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, commended members for their unity and commitment to advancing the House’s collective mandate. He said the legislative agenda for the new session would focus on constitutional and electoral reforms, national security, and economic development.
“The House remains united in purpose and determined to deliver on the aspirations of Nigerians,” Abbas said, adding that lawmakers would intensify oversight on government programmes to ensure accountability and impact.

Other areas of focus include consumer protection, tax reforms, and initiatives aimed at strengthening national identity and civic participation.
The plenary also witnessed the swearing-in of three newly elected members who won their respective by-elections during the recess.
