The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has said that the College of Education, Afaha Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has accessed N6.9 billion out of the N7.4 billion allocated for its infrastructural intervention.
Chairman TETfund Board of Trustees and former Governor of Kastina State, Aminu Masari, disclosed this while unveiling a N1. 3 billion administrative block and ICT centre at the college at the weekend.
He said out of the N7.4 billion, a total of N6. 9 billion has been accessed, leaving a balance of N462.9 million most of which had been committed already.
“‘The total cost of the projects to be commissioned today is N1,391,116,511.32. You may wish to know also that from the start of TETFund interventions to this college, the fund has allocated a total of N7,388,131,247.96, for infrastructure-related projects only.
”Out of this, a total of N6,925,204,879.46 have been accessed, leaving a balance of N462,926,368.50, most of which are already committed.”‘Masari said.
The chairman who pledged the TETfund’s sustained commitment to infrastructure interventions in tertiary institutions across the country, noted that the commissioning of the projects align with the TETfund vision of making Nigerian institutions globally competitive and relevant.
”For us at TETFund, the inauguration of these projects is a pointer to progress and success in aligning with TETFund’s vision of making our institutions globally relevant and competitive in this age of pronounced digital advancement and the increasing relevance and impact of Artificial Intelligence .
”We are resolved as an agency of the federal government to keep pace with current advancements and are making significant efforts at ensuring that our beneficiary institutions are up to date, through support to acquire relevant tools of work for knowledge creation, learning, research and supporting teacher training, entrepreneurship and skills development,” he said.
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, appreciated the TETfund’s intervention, noting that the intervention at the Akwa Ibom State University and the commissioning of the project at the college of education are worth appreciating.
These interventions, the governor said, have gone a long way in showing the extent to which the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and ARISE agenda of the state government has shaped the educational sector in the country, thereby making life better for Nigerians.

Gov. Eno said: “‘From what we see in Akwa Ibom State University, a significant signature of TETfund and what we are seeing here in the College of Education Afaha Nsit, in accessing over N7 billuon, this is commendable .
“It shows the extent to which the Renewed Hope of Mr President in education aligns with the emphasis on education of the ARISE agenda, to make Nigeria hopeful and great again “.
Earlier, the Provost of the college, Prof. Daniel Udo, narrated how he came into the college when TETfund was threatening to withdraw its interventions from institutions which were not accessing them.
Before his assumption of duty, Prof. Udo said that the college already had funds allocated by TETfund for 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 interventions unaccessed .
He expressed appreciation that the decision was rescinded when he had an interface with the TETfund management in Abuja.
