A peace ambassador, Dr. Ekiye Ekiye, has commended the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rep. Kingsley Chinda, and other members of the caucus for what he described as their constructive and unifying style of leadership.

Ekiye gave the commendation in a statement released over the weekend titled: “A Call for Peace, Unity and Constructive Leadership,” in which he praised Rep. Chinda’s calm and diplomatic approach to resolving issues in the National Assembly.

He said the Rivers State-born lawmaker has demonstrated that opposition politics can be conducted with maturity, purpose, and a commitment to national interest.

“Today, I rise to encourage every Nigerian to continue placing their faith in actions and decisions that promote peace, progress, and unity—values that true nation-builders uphold, even if those who thrive in crisis may not appreciate them,” Ekiye said.

He added that “in this spirit, I want to particularly commend the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rep. Kingsley Chinda, for exemplifying what it means to lead with wisdom, loyalty, and purpose.

“He is not just a politician—he is a seasoned lawmaker, a man of peace, and a dependable leader whose commitment to national interest remains steadfast.”

Ekiye urged Nigerians to embrace constructive opposition, describing it as a democratic necessity that must be carried out with respect and a focus on solutions rather than conflict.

“To those who believe that opposition must mean antagonism, hatred, or constant confrontation, I urge you to rethink that notion.

“Constructive opposition is not about creating chaos—it’s about holding power to account respectfully and working towards solutions that benefit the people,” he stated.

The peace advocate noted that the relative calm and cooperation currently witnessed in the National Assembly was a result of the leadership style of lawmakers like Rep. Chinda, who have prioritized dialogue and understanding over political rivalry.

“The current peace and stability we are witnessing in the National Assembly and, by extension, the federal government, is no accident.

“It is because we have leaders in the opposition like Chinda who understand that crisis is not a path to progress—but peace is,” Ekiye said.

He described the minority leader as “well-schooled, well-prepared, and deeply experienced,” adding that leadership, in Rep. Chinda’s view, is not a battlefield but a platform for negotiation and service.

“Those hoping for chaos in the name of opposition will be disappointed because leadership today must be defined by collaboration, not combat,” he added.

Ekiye also applauded other members of the House minority caucus for their contributions to national unity and legislative progress, urging them not to be discouraged by critics who mistake peace for weakness.

“I firmly believe that nothing is more important than peace. In a time where some seek to divide, disrupt, and discredit, we must stand firm in celebrating and supporting those who strive to build, unite, and lead with integrity,” he said.

Ekiye called on Nigerians to reject politics of bitterness and embrace what he termed “the politics of purpose.”

“To all Nigerians: let us reject the politics of division and embrace the politics of purpose. Let us value leaders who seek solutions—not strife.

“And let us remain united in the belief that a peaceful and progressive Nigeria is not only possible—it is our collective responsibility,” he added.
