According to a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP James Lashén Saminu, the incident occurred near Kasuwan Shanu, where armed men ambushed a red Toyota Carina II vehicle with registration number BSA 766AE.

The vehicle, driven by Terna Gbaya from Zaki-Biam, was carrying seven passengers when it was intercepted by the gunmen. All occupants were forcefully taken into the nearby bush.

The police said they received a distress call at about 10:35 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, alerting them to the abduction which had taken place around 10:10 p.m. the previous night.

“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Wukari Division, in collaboration with military personnel, swiftly mobilized a team to the area. Their prompt response led to the successful rescue of five of the abducted victims,” the statement read.

The rescued individuals have been identified as, Musa Adamu (male), Rose Sor (female), Lydia Vyiashima (female), Comfort Iyofar (female), and Terna Gbaya (male, driver)

Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining two victims, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the kidnappers.

Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CBetty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, commended the swift response of the operatives and their military counterparts. She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to securing lives and property across the state.

“We remain determined to bring the culprits to justice and ensure the safety of all residents in Taraba,” she said.

The Command also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency.
