The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has warned officers under his command against extortion, unlawful detention, and the illegal practice of stopping and searching citizens’ mobile phones.
Speaking during a strategic conference with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and tactical commanders at the Police Officers’ Mess, Asaba, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the CP aligned the session with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.
CP Abaniwonda declared that his leadership will not tolerate corruption or misconduct of any kind, stressing that erring officers will face strict disciplinary action.
“Policemen are not allowed to randomly stop people and search their mobile phones. Any officer found engaging in this embarrassing act will be decisively dealt with,” he warned.
The Delta Police Commissioner emphasized intelligence-driven policing, disciplined highway enforcement, and respect for human rights, noting that officers must deliver firm but civil security operations. He directed senior officers to strengthen pre-deployment briefings and ensure accountability through post-deployment debriefings.
