A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has accused the management of Rivers State University (RSU) and the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) of extorting students through arbitrary and inflated charges.
Consequently, the party called on the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara to launch investigation into the alleged sharp practices in the institutions.
In a statement signed by the faction’s spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, on Monday the party alleged that the graduation fee at RSU was increased by 115%, describing the move as exploitative and unjustifiable.

It also claimed that IAUE has been imposing unauthorized levies on students, allegedly taking advantage of the emergency rule period to enforce illegal charges.
The party equally called on the Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Education to take urgent steps to protect students and parents from further financial pressure occasioned by the arbitrary fees from the management of the two institutions
The statement urged authorities to ensure that public educational institutions do not become platforms for financial exploitation.
