Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a suspected high-profile terrorist in a significant operation targeting criminal networks in Taraba State.

The arrest, which took place on September 18, followed a tip-off based on credible and actionable intelligence, according to a statement issued by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade.

The suspect, 35-year-old Saawuan Wuaiyolna, was apprehended at Takum junction in Wukari local government council while attempting to move covertly on a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Wuaiyolna hails from Ateryange community in Ukum local government area of Benue state and is a known associate of the wanted bandit leader Akiki Utivi infamously known as “Full Fire.”

According to the Army, the suspect was on a surveillance mission, tasked with monitoring military activity and gathering intelligence to aid in planned attacks on civilians and security personnel.

“The arrest is a major blow to the criminal gang’s operational capacity and reinforces our commitment to dismantling terrorist and bandit networks in Taraba State and beyond,” the Army stated.

Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift response and professional conduct. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across its area of responsibility.

General Uwa called on residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting military operations by sharing timely and credible information.

“This cooperation is critical in sustaining the gains we’ve made through Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA, which is focused on restoring law and order in areas affected by armed violence and criminal activities across the North Central region,” he said.

The suspect, according to the army. is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
