The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, has reported that 80% of the inmates currently imprisoned in correctional facilities in the state were arrested by its team.
The state Commander of the corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye disclosed this information during an interview in Akure.
He explained that the number of criminals the corps has arrested has become too high for the current legal system to handle, which is why they turned to the judiciary.
This has led to a significant number of people being convicted.
Adeleye emphasized the corps thorough investigation process, stating that they not only catch criminals but also take them to court for prosecution.
He mentioned that there are many convicts in various correctional centers across the state, and the number the corps handles is greater than that of other law enforcement agencies.
He also noted that the crime rate in Ondo State was much higher before Amotekun was established.

“Before we started this initiative, it was risky to go to the bank and return home without being robbed,” he said.
He recommended for the state government restrict the use of commercial motorcycles at night, as they were often involved in crime.
According to his research, over 70% of crimes were committed using these motorcycles, making it hard to catch the criminals afterward.
After putting this restriction in place, along with a ban on tinted and unregistered vehicles, crime rate in the state, especially in the cities, dropped by more than 80%.
While these measures did cause some inconvenience, Adeleye pointed out that it was necessary to ensure safety in the community.
