The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has directed the deployment of reinforced security measures to protect farmers in the Chanchanji area of Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State, as the harvest season begins.
His directive came after an operational visit to the area on Tuesday, following a string of attacks that claimed the lives of several farmers.
According to the Brigade’s Acting Spokesman, Lt. Umar Muhammad, the visit was part of ongoing operations under Operation Zafin Wuta, aimed at restoring public confidence and improving security across Southern Taraba.
In a statement, Lt. Muhammad said Brig. Gen. Uwa also approved extended and sustained patrols across all affected communities before, during and after the harvest period.
The Commander urged troops to maintain professionalism, vigilance and respect for human rights, noting that strong civil-military cooperation remains crucial to achieving lasting peace.

During the visit, Brig. Gen. Uwa led troops on a fighting patrol through key flashpoints and farmland routes. The show of force, according to the statement, was intended to deter criminal elements responsible for the recent killings and reassure residents of the Army’s readiness to prevent further violence.
The patrols, according to the release, form part of broader clearance and stabilisation operations ongoing in the area.
The Brigade Commander also met with displaced residents and farmers taking refuge at the Chanchanji Market Square. Many shared their fears about returning to their homes and farmlands despite enjoying a successful farming season.
As of the time of filing this report, several communities including Ayu, Dooshima, New Gboko, Adu Tyopaa, Peeki and Tyojande remain deserted following the attacks.
