A sweeping political shift has taken place in Adamawa State as 39 special advisers and 14 out of the 21 local government chairmen have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development comes just hours after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri formally announced his defection from the PDP to the ruling APC, signaling a major realignment in the state’s political structure.
The special advisers made their position known during a press conference in Yola, addressed by Bala Jada, Chairman of the Forum of Special Advisers to the Governor.
He said the decision followed “careful reflection, consultation and conviction,” and was taken in the overriding interest of Adamawa State.
“Our purpose is clear and straightforward, to provide clarity on our political position and reaffirm our commitment to the continued development, stability and strategic advancement of Adamawa State,” Jada stated.
He also expressed appreciation to Gov. Fintiri for the confidence reposed in them, describing their service as both a responsibility and an honour.
In a related move, the Chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen (ALGON) in Adamawa State, Sulaiman Gangkuba, announced that 14 local government chairmen had also joined the APC in solidarity with the governor.
Gangkuba said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders and dismissed claims that the move was influenced by coercion.

“This is a collective decision taken after wide consultation with our stakeholders. It is in recognition of the giant strides recorded under the leadership of Governor Fintiri,” he said.
The affected local government areas include Toungo, Ganye, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, Lamurde, Guyuk, Yola South, Fufore, Hong, Maiha, Mubi South and Madagali.
The chairmen pledged continued collaboration with the state government under the APC platform and reaffirmed their commitment to grassroots development.
Political analysts say the wave of defections marks a significant turning point in Adamawa’s political landscape.
With a majority of local government chairmen and senior aides shifting allegiance, observers believe the move could reshape party structures and influence future electoral contests in the state.
