The wave of defections in the House of Representatives continued this week as three opposition lawmakers officially dumped their parties for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers — Hon. Amos Daniel, Hon. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, and Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin — announced their resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), respectively, during plenary.

Their defection, which was formally acknowledged by the House, brings the total number of lawmakers who have switched parties since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly to 61 — with 60 of those movements strengthening the APC-led Majority Caucus.
A breakdown of the defections shows that the PDP has suffered the biggest losses, with 39 of its members crossing over to other parties.
The Labour Party has lost 13 lawmakers, the NNPP five, the Young Progressives Party two, while the African Democratic Congress and the All Progressives Grand Alliance have each lost one.
Political observers say the development further consolidates the APC’s dominance in the Green Chamber and underscores the fluid nature of Nigeria’s party system, where loyalty often aligns with political advantage.
With the defections, the ruling party appears to have tightened its grip on the House as it pushes forward key elements of the national legislative agenda.
