Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has firmly dismissed claims that he is planning to run for president in 2027, declaring unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. Amid swirling online rumors and a viral video suggesting otherwise, Bello has come forward to set the record straight.
In a strongly worded statement issued by his Media Director, Michael Ohiare, on Friday, Bello expressed shock and disappointment over a resurfaced video that is being misrepresented to fuel speculation about his political ambitions. The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, was reportedly taken during a political rally in 2022, well before the 2023 general elections.
According to Ohiare, the attempt to portray the old footage as a new campaign effort is not only misleading but a calculated move by political mischief-makers trying to sow discord between Bello and the President. He noted that those behind the clip are deliberately twisting facts to stoke unnecessary controversy.

“Governor Yahaya Bello has no presidential ambition for 2027,” the statement emphasized. “He stands solidly behind President Tinubu and is committed to the success of this administration.” Ohiare lauded the President’s performance so far, noting that Tinubu has shown strong leadership in the face of Nigeria’s economic and security challenges and therefore deserves the continued support of all well-meaning Nigerians.
The statement further described the viral post as a desperate and baseless attempt to spark political tension. Ohiare urged the public to disregard the video and remain vigilant against the spread of disinformation, which has become increasingly rampant on social media platforms.
This is not the first time Yahaya Bello has been the target of such speculative campaigns. Political analysts believe that his rising profile and grassroots popularity often make him a subject of false narratives and political manipulation. However, Bello has consistently reiterated his loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and his support for Tinubu’s leadership.
