With political realignments already gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has made it clear that he has no intention of abandoning his party for another platform.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday during the 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP, Kwankwaso dismissed speculation that he was preparing to dump the party. According to him, while the NNPP remains open to negotiations and alliances, he is firmly rooted in the movement he helped build.
“Many people thought today we would announce whether I will stay in NNPP or go to another party or join some individuals. That was never the intention of this meeting. We have our party and we are comfortable. We are happy,” Kwankwaso stated.
He emphasized that neither he nor the NNPP leadership is under pressure to make hasty decisions, stressing that the party is focused on a long-term strategy to present itself as a credible alternative in 2027. “We are not in a hurry. We believe we have something to offer at the highest leadership level in this country, and we will do it the way it should be done,” he said.
Kwankwaso, who finished fourth in the 2023 presidential election, reiterated his readiness to engage in dialogue with other stakeholders while maintaining fairness and inclusivity within the NNPP. “We are flexible. We are ready to talk to anybody. More and more people are joining us. If there is any negotiation, it will be collective,” he declared.

In his remarks, the National Chairman of the NNPP, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, reaffirmed the party’s support for Kwankwaso, describing him as the natural candidate for 2027. He praised the NNPP as “the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics” and noted that the party was steadily gaining ground as one of the most sought-after movements in the country.
Ahmed further stressed that with Kwankwaso’s growing popularity and the party’s grassroots structure, the NNPP was well positioned to challenge the dominance of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next election cycle.
