The Black Stars of Ghana have a huge motivation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will be staged in Canada, Mexico, USA this summer.

Key Highlights:

  • 1,000 tickets secured: Ghana’s government pre-purchased 1,000 World Cup tickets for fans.
  • Cost control: Early purchase aimed to avoid high ticket prices for supporters.
  • Other support: Ghana Football Association and other organizations also arranged tickets for fans.
  • Warm-up matches: Ghana will play friendlies against Wales and Jamaica ahead of the tournament.
  • World Cup schedule: Ghana is in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia; opening match vs. Panama on June 17, 2026.

Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, has disclosed that the government has secured 1,000 tickets in advance for supporters of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the tournament as one of the most expensive ever for fans.

He explained that the early acquisition was a strategic decision aimed at preventing escalating costs and ensuring Ghanaian fans are not priced out of the competition.

“It is really nightmarish and a difficult one. This is the first time we are trying that. For us as a country, this is the first time we are playing a World Cup in that zone,” he said.

“Luckily for us, we managed and planned very well and effectively. We ordered 1,000. I believe that that is what has saved the situation because if we were waiting till now, it would have cost us huge sums of money to even get that number of tickets.”

The minister further clarified that the government initiative does not stand alone, noting that other institutions have also made independent arrangements to support fan attendance.

“I wouldn’t say only a thousand. The FA itself has secured some tickets. We have other organisations that also have secured tickets. They are all sponsoring Ghanaians to be able to get in there,” he said.

The development comes as the Black Stars step up preparations for the tournament in North America.

Ghana will face Wales in a friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium before taking on Jamaica on June 10 in their final warm-up match.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L of the 2026 World Cup alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

Their campaign will begin on June 17 against Panama at the BMO Field, before a high-profile clash with England on June 23 and a final group match against Croatia on June 27, 2026.
