As 2023 general elections continue to gather momentum and as the search for a worthy and qualified successor of President Muhammadu Buhari continues, over 30 support groups have stormed Kano in a declaration of support for the current Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
They launched the birth of a mother umbrella which they called “The New Tribe” while vowing to mobilise massive support for the actualisation of Osinbajo in the 2023 elections.
The groups, which came from all over the country, want the Vice President to accept and openly declare for the office of the president in 2023. They said Osinbajo is a very simple, calm but very capable and competent leader with a sound mind that represents what the Nigerian tribe should be.
Crested “The Great Kano Demand” cum “Kano Declaration”, the event held at the Meena Event Center, Kano on Saturday. Delegates from the different groups were enthusiastically dressed in different tribal regalia. They noted among other things that Osinbajo embodies unity of the country irrespective of tribes and diversities and that he is best suited to be the next Nigerian President.
Speaking at the event on why the groups are coming together, Engr. Nonso Nnamani from the Southeast said Nigeria is bigger than the interest of one tribe. He emphasized that the country currently needs a leader with the intellectual capacity and technical know-how to build and consolidate on the efforts and gains of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Nnamani stressed that the vision of a one Nigeria carefully built and structured for the benefit of all Nigerians irrespective of region, tribes, religion or political affiliation is attainable if Nigerians can sustain what the Buhari administration has done by electing an Osinbajo who can calmly address national issues in the interest of all.
“This is a platform to celebrate the achievement of President Muhammadu Buhari and support a leader that can build on his legacies to the benefit of all Nigerians irrespective of tribes.
“We are not looking for a president of Southeast, Northeast, Southwest or Northwest. But we are looking for a President of the federal republic of Nigeria.
“We are, therefore, coming together as a group to charge the Nigerian people to think Osinbajo, for our political choice should not be about tribes, clothes, or political party that a supposed president comes from but a proven character of true capacity, which is what Osinbajo represents,” Nnamani said.
He said the choice of Osinbajo is borne out of patriotism to keep the country together on a path of progress and national cohesion. He called on fellow Nigerians to look beyond tribe, religion and political diversities by supporting Osinbajo as president.
