Two out of the four persons abducted on Sunday night by suspected bandits in Zirin Mahauta community, Lakwaya Ward of Gwarzo Local Government Area, Kano State, have regained their freedom, authorities have confirmed.

The fresh attack, which occurred in the rural community, saw four residents, two males and two females, forcefully taken by the assailants, sending fear into the hearts of residents of the community.

However, the two female victims later regained their freedom, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining two male victims still in captivity.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government, Mani Tsoho, expressed deep concern over the resurgence of banditry in the area and sympathised with the affected families.

He spoke through the Vice Chairman, Abdulminin Lakwaya.

The council chairman said the local government, in collaboration with the state government and security agencies, has intensified efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and prevent further attacks.

Tsoho reassured residents of Lakwaya Ward and the entire Gwarzo Local Government Area of his administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.

He disclosed that security agencies have been given full directives and the necessary logistical support to track down the perpetrators, dismantle their hideouts and restore peace to the affected communities.

The chairman said the council would further strengthen collaboration with security agencies through intensified patrols, intelligence gathering and proactive security measures, particularly in rural areas vulnerable to criminal activities.

He appealed to residents to cooperate with security operatives by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements, while cautioning against the spread of rumours capable of causing panic and undermining security efforts.

However, Tsoho warned criminal elements that the local government would not serve as a safe haven for bandits, stressing that anyone involved in such acts would face the full weight of the law.

He commended the dedication of security personnel and called on residents to pray for the quick release of the remaining victims and the restoration of lasting peace in the local government, the state and the country at large.
