Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, of Borno state, has reinstated 23 health workers previously suspended for absenteeism at Gwoza General Hospital.
The announcement came during his inspection of the hospital’s newly renovated maternity and child center, as well as other ongoing facility improvements.
The 23 health workers were initially suspended after the governor’s earlier visit revealed their absence from duty.
During his recent visit, Governor Zulum reminded the staff of the importance of commitment to their roles while assuring them of enhanced working conditions and other incentives.
“We received complaints about the 23 medical workers who were absent during my last visit,” Zulum stated. “Although they have been pardoned, no salary arrears will be paid.”

“The Commissioner of Health and the Chief Medical Director of the Hospitals Management Board will oversee this deployment,” Zulum explained, adding that “We also plan to recruit community health workers from Gwoza to reinforce local healthcare services.”
