Borno State Governor, Engr Babagana Umara Zulum, has commenced the distribution of food supplies to over 100,000 households in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area.
The initiative, as gathered by our correspondent, is aimed at alleviating the adverse effects of escalating food prices and essential commodity shortages.
Each household was to receive a 25kg bag of rice and maize during the symbolic presentation by Governor Zulum which took place in Maiduguri metropolis.
Addressing the media, Zulum stressed the imperative of sustained assistance to address prevailing hardships, particularly among those severely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
“We are here today to flag off the distribution of food items to 100,000 heads of households from Maiduguri Metropolitan and its environs,” Zulum stated, highlighting the disproportionate impact faced by communities in the region.

Acknowledging the global economic challenges exacerbating the situation, Governor Zulum pledged to expand the aid program to encompass over 200,000 families, extending assistance to additional areas, including seven local government areas in southern Borno.
“While the distribution of palliatives continues, we will continue investing in commercial and subsistence agriculture,” Zulum affirmed, urging citizens, particularly those without livelihoods, to embrace agriculture while assuring comprehensive support.
Emphasizing the government’s resolve to combat any attempts to undermine peacebuilding efforts, Governor Zulum warned against politicizing the food crisis, affirming decisive measures against saboteurs.
