Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced a N20 billion fund to rebuild infrastructure damaged by the recent flood disaster and provide relief to victims.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the inauguration of a committee to investigate the collapse of the Alau Dam.
The flood, which struck on September 10 affected Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and neighboring local government councils.
Zulum revealed that N10 billion of the fund will be allocated directly to flood victims, to help them recover and rebuild their lives.
The remaining N10 billion, as announced by him, will go toward infrastructure reconstruction through the state’s Ministry of Works and Housing.

He emphasized that the funds for victims would be handled by a disbursement committee involving agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), along with security agencies.
Zulum who did not onl applauded the federal government for its support during the crisis, also extended his appreciation to state governments, individuals, corporate bodies, international NGOs, and local NGOs that provided aid during state’s time of need.
“I want to commend the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for all the assistance, including the food donations from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture,” Zulum said.
