Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, of Borno state, has directed the immediate payment of the new national minimum wage to civil servants in the state.
The directive, as observed by our correspondent, followed a meeting with the state’s minimum wage implementation committee, held at the council chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri.
The payment of the new national minimum wage, as directed by the governor, is to begin this month.
The governor also approved N3 billion for the immediate payment of entitlements to the families of deceased civil servants in the state.

The Trumpet noticed that the governor symbolically presented a cheque to the Nigerian Union of Pensioners during the meeting.
He also committed to clearing the backlog of gratuities owed to retired workers and promised to initiate an upward review of monthly pension payments, aimed at improving the welfare of retirees in the state.
Elated by the development, some of the civil servants who spoke with our correspondent, applauded the governor for giving the approval for the payment of the new national minimum wage.
The development, they believed, will go a long way to cushion the economic hardship that has made life cumbersome for the ordinary people of the state.
