Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has approved the sale of two major government-owned estates in Maiduguri the capital of Borno state to the current occupants, under an owner-occupier arrangement.
The decision was announced after the governor received a report from the state’s committee on the disposal of government properties on Sunday at the Government House.
The estates set for sale are Mustapha Umar Legacy Estate, located along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road, and the former CBN quarters, situated on Damboa road.
Expressing his satisfaction with the committee’s work, he emphasized the need for a swift implementation of the report’s recommendations.
Addressing the committee, he said “I assure you that we will implement the outcome of your report immediately.”

Stating that “based on my discussions and investigations, it’s clear you’ve done a comprehensive job. We will proceed with the outright sale of these two estates to their current occupants.”
Zulum added that government officials residing in these estates would be given priority in purchasing their homes. He also mentioned that private individuals not affiliated with the government would have the opportunity to buy the properties outright.
The governor revealed plans to sell four other estates, including Bakasi, Gubio Road, Teachers Village, and Fertilizer estates, which were previously occupied by internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Given the damage caused during the IDPs’ occupation, the sale of the estates, as made known by him, might require rehabilitation work.
The governor made it clear that Teachers Village would be exclusively available for purchase by teachers living in Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Councils.
