Zaynab Ngohemba, former wife of the Ooni of Ife, has spoken publicly about her marriage to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, describing the relationship as one founded on maturity, balance, and a shared sense of duty to public service.
In a statement released through her media aide, David Adeoye, Zaynab dismissed suggestions that the marriage represents a change in direction or priorities. She said both she and Akume have long been committed to national service, adding that their union simply reflects a meeting of values already central to their individual lives.
According to her, the marriage is anchored on humility, discipline, empathy, and responsibility, qualities she believes are essential for personal stability and effective leadership. She noted that a settled private life strengthens one’s capacity to serve with clarity and consistency, especially in positions of national responsibility.

Zaynab, formerly known as Olori Wuraola, was married to Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, in March 2016. The marriage ended in separation in 2017 after about seventeen months. Her comments on her current marriage come amid growing public interest in the private lives of political figures and their families, especially at a time when trust and character remain central to national discourse.
