Youths of Ekenobizi community in Umopara, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, who fled the community following the killing of some soldiers on November 13, 2024, at a military checkpoint are yet to return to the community over fears of retaliatory attacks by the army.
The attack on the military checkpoint has been condemned by Governor Alex Otti, who also promised that his administration would collaborate with security agencies in arresting those responsible.
However, many youths who fled the community immediately after the attack, are yet to return back to their homes and families, while economic activities are currently at a standstill in the community .
A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Lucky Igbokwe, in his reaction condemned the killing of the soldiers, describing it as barbaric, heinous and wicked.

He urged the military authorities to go after those responsible for the attack, but to spare the innocent members of Ekenobizi community in the event of any retaliatory attacks.
Igbokwe advised the military to deploy its intelligence apparatus in fishing out the attackers, instead of invading the entire community.
Also, the President of Enyioma Foundation, Enyinnaya Atuloma, condemned the killing of the soldiers, describing it as senseless and atrocious.
He however, appealed to the military authorities to apply professionalism in the search for the real attackers and pleaded that the community should not be invaded.
