As insecurity continues to cast a shadow over Chanchanji Ward in Takum Local Government Council of Taraba State, a community based organisation has warned against what it describes as attempts to politicise the humanitarian situation in the troubled community.
The Concerned Chanchanji Youth Group for Peace and Sustainable Development, in a statement on Saturday signed by its spokesman, Mr. Tersoo Apetimin, cautioned political actors against exploiting the suffering of displaced families for partisan advantage.
The statement was issued in response to a publication alleging neglect by the member representing Takum, Donga and Ussa Federal Constituency, in the House of Representatives, Rep. Mark Useni, over the security situation in the area.
Chanchanji Ward had in recent times faced security challenges that have displaced residents and disrupted economic and social activities.
While acknowledging the pain and hardship experienced by the people, the youth group described allegations of inaction against the federal lawmaker as misleading.
“While we recognise the pain and hardship experienced by our people, it is important to correct misleading narratives and caution against playing politics with human lives,” the statement read.
The group insisted that attempts to personalise what it termed a complex and multi-layered security crisis risk diverting attention from practical solutions.
According to the organisation, the lawmaker has taken steps to support affected communities amid the crisis, stating that, relief materials were delivered to impacted communities on two separate occasions.
“These interventions were not for publicity but in fulfilment of his responsibility to his constituents,” the statement noted.

The group disclosed that plans are at an advanced stage for the construction of a police station in Chanchanji, and its subsequent upgrade to a divisional police station.
The youth group emphasised that security challenges require coordinated collaboration bt federal, state and security authorities, rather than the blame directed at a single individual.
“The humanitarian situation in Chanchanji demands unity, coordinated advocacy and practical solutions, not divisive political attacks,” the statement added.
It urged stakeholders across political, security and community lines to prioritise peace building initiatives, strengthen security presence, and provide sustained humanitarian support to displaced families.
